Jóse Hernàndez foresaw the future of mariachi in the hands of our precious youth. Yet, giving them the meaning of mariachi meant giving of self. To this end, Jóse Hernàndez sought to establish the Mariachi Heritage Society in 1991. The mission of this organization in part, is to educate and build an identity in our children with the value mariachi music can have on their minds and hearts. Jóse believes mariachi music is the bridge to instill the identity of a harmonious heritage within our children. This cultural meaning attributed to mariachi enables the beauty of our heritage to live in the lives of our youth. Says Jóse, "We encourage all of the youth to learn how to work as a team. As an added benefit our youth learn about cultural history and heritage of México and the United States. Music instruction provides our youth with a strong sense of accomplishment and self esteem.
